By Becky Barnes
August 30, 2012

Lighting the way to the Paralympic Games was the task undertaken by members of a Bracknell sports club in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Four ‘very sleepy’ members of the Wokingham and Bracknell Red Diamond Sports Club carried the flame through Harrow on a special 24-hour relay from Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury to the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London.

Bracknell town councillor Isabel Mattick who is chairman and president of the club, carried the flame with club members Irene Cripps, Val Codd and Brian Willatts.

Cllr Mattick, 72, of Malham Fell, Wildridings, said: “We were meant to carry the torch at 5.15am but it was delayed until 7.15am – it went wonderfully though.”

The group were supported by friends and family who lit lanterns along the route.

Cllr Mattick said: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it – we are very tired now though.”
