Colourful displays light up Crowthorne Horticultural Association summer show

August 15, 2012

Fabulous blooms created an ocean of colour at Crowthorne’s famous Wellington College as the village’s gardening experts proudly showed off their creations.

Crowthorne Horticultural Association’s Summer Show featured a range of awards for the group’s members in categories including floral art, vegetables, fruit and flower displays.

Other categories included cake-making and photography.

The big winner at the event, which was held on Saturday, July 21, was Graham Talbot, who took home first prize in seven of the categories.

Group member Jennifer Surrey also came first in seven categories.

Chairman Gerald Cooper said: “The show was a great success.

“Although the number of exhibits and exhibitors was down on last year, this was really a result of the dreadful weather, wind, rain and low light we have had recently.

“About 100 people attended the show and admired the exhibits, especially the roses, sweet peas and floral art which was outstanding.

“The vegetable exhibits were down, although there were three collections which generated quite a lot of interest.”
