By Hugh Fort
August 15, 2012

Thousands of commuters in Bracknell will have to fork out more to get trains into London from January after it was revealed fares are set to rise by 6.2 per cent.

Getbracknell is looking for feedback from rail users on how these increases will affect them.

I gave up the commute several years ago; due to the expense and unreliable service. Its all very well of them to say that 8 out of 10 trains run on time, but in the real world it means your are late twice a week. That is too much.

I think they should replace ALL trains with buses.

Buses that would run on clean straight roads linking directly to other towns. You'd buy a ticket from a central point at the start of your journey rather than bothering the driver. And these buses would run regularly and in succession....

Oh.....

If there was another reasonable way of getting from Bracknell to the City, then I'm sure we'd all be doing it, but we're held to ransom on these ridiculous rises on what are already some of the highest rail fares in Europe. And as for quiet carriages - don't get me started. Don't understand why I should get dirty looks for pointing this out to people on the phone.

And couldn't you find a more up to date picture of the station? That bridge has been gone for over a year!!

It is unfathomable how the railway company can raise fares when they are looking to replace the quiet carriage with a new compartment where customers are asked to be just a fraction less irritating than they would otherwise be. Although I concur that humans are no longer capable of quietness or sustained consideration towards others, I am currently begging rail bosses, through the media of Dance, to introduce what I believe is a more realistic alternative. Even though I am a opinionated wally and as such have no problem loudly broadcasting the details of my forthcoming meeting with someone called Claire Bevan at a pencil manufacturer in Swindon to a carriage full of people trying to read, I also like the idea of a carriage where it’s generally a bit quiet so everyone can hear me better, but they can’t give me dodgy looks because their moral high ground has been eroded.
