Vandals strike at Jennett's Park community centre

Problems at Bracknell’s newest estate Jennett’s Park are ‘not unexpected’, according to the borough’s police chief.

Chief inspector Simon Bowden spoke to the Bracknell Forest Standard after two windows were smashed at Jennett’s Park Community Centre, in Tawny Owl Square, last week and another stone was thrown through a window at the weekend.

Police also received reports that somebody had urinated into a communal letter box at the community centre on Thursday, August 2.

Ch Insp Bowden said: “Quite often new estates suffer problems with lots of new people moving in from different walks of life.

“Jennett’s Park is the first big new estate for Bracknell Forest since Warfield was built. Problems are not unexpected and we have worked in patrol plans to get on top of the issues but it also needs engagement from the community and council to help the demographic settle down.”

Many members of the community are working hard to create a positive community spirit at Jennett’s Park.

Paul Hollingum, 61, a committee member of Jennett’s Park Community Association, said: “Everybody is working together to really get the community together.

“We want to build good relationships for the kids and once we have that they will start respecting the centre and stop throwing stones.”

He added: “It is a minority who cause problems – probably kids who were bored. It doesn’t happen very often – it is just unfortunate the windows of the community centre were smashed and I am sure the police have got it in hand.”

There was evidence of community spirit on Monday when 60 children turned up for a treasure hunt organised at the community centre.

Paul, who lives in Goldfinch Crescent and runs The Bird Table café at the community centre, said: “There was a really positive feeling at the event.”

Paul praised the police for sending a community police officer so quickly to meet members and residents.

How does boredom correlate to smashing 3 windows, throwing eggs and urinating into a letterbox. It's a community centre so there are things to do! Does everything need to be spoon fed ??

Shame this has happened but Jennetts is the same as all other areas in Bracknell and it is to be expected

Maybe if there was something there for children and adults to do the boredom wouldn't be as bad
