Locks Ride closed due to final part of £17m water pipe installation

Drivers in Ascot are warned of a road closure in Locks Ride due to the final part of a £17 million water pipe installation.

South East Water has been installing the 17km pipe between its water treatment works in Swinley Forest and Bray Water Treatment Works near Maidenhead.

The project began in 2008 and is now in its final stage.

The company said the road will be closed to traffic with access only while the work, which has already started, is done.

Drivers will have to take detours down Forest Road and Chavey Down Road and the company hopes the work will be completed by the end of the month.

The final part of the work will go in to Priory Road, which means a short period of temporary traffic lights towards the end of the project.

Graham Webb, Delivery Manager for South East Water, said: “Reinstatement improvement work was due to be completed in Locks Ride by the end of June, however we suspended work to avoid traffic disruption while events took place at Ascot Racecourse.

“Work was also suspended and the road re-opened while repair work to a water main was carried out by another utility company.”

"There may be occasional times when it may seem that work is not being carried out, for example while we wait for concrete to cure, or for the deliveries of specialist tools.

"Please be assured the team is working hard to complete this work as quickly as possible.

"I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to residents and motorists for the inconvenience this work is causing, and thank them for their continued patience.”
