Former Feed the Children charity goes into liquidation
August 03, 2012
A children's charity based in Ruscombe has closed down just four months after rebranding.
Global Hearts for Children, formerly Feed The Children, has gone into liquidation and sent its last container on its way to Eastern Europe on Tuesday afternoon.
The charity’s board of trustees took the decision after a dramatic fall in donations over recent years.
Chief executive Brian Main said: “We knew the level of income so we knew there was a problem but we are surprised it was closed so quickly.
“It’s a sudden decision that has been made by the board of trustees who felt it could no longer continue.”
Donations to Global Hearts had dropped by 35 per cent over the last year after a 15 per cent fall the year before that.
The charity’s six staff and 50 volunteers found out the news on Monday and finished work for the last time just 24 hours later.
A last container delivering a range of food, blankets, toiletries and feminine hygiene products was sent on Tuesday afternoon before staff left the warehouse and office for the last time at 5pm.
Gordon Storey, chairman of Twyford Charities Together, said: “Twyford Village Partnership and Twyford Charities Together are very upset and disappointed to hear this news.”
