Police warning to hide keys after thefts

By Hugh Fort
July 24, 2012

Police are warning people to keep their car keys hidden after thefts in Forest Park and Winkfield.

No cars were stolen in the two raids, but police say not to give thieves easy targets.

The first attempted theft was in Winkfield Lane, Winkfield,in the early hours of Tuesday, July 17.

The thieves took the keys to two cars in the burglary.

They tried to drive away in one but it had a flat battery.

Police found the keys in the ignition.

The second attempt was at a house in Worlds End Hill in Forest Park.

This time, the thieves used the keys to open the doors and stole a laptop and handbag,  but did not take the car.

Police advise people leave keys out of sight as there has been a particular problem in the past of people putting sticks or rods through letterboxes to hook the keyring.

Wouldn't it be better to hide the keys before they are stolen?
