Drummer joins record attempt

A musician used his drumming talents in a world record attempt on Sunday.
Mike O’Riley, of Wokingham’s No Limits band, was one of 798 drummers in Manchester who attempted to become the largest group to play the instrument simultaneously in rhythm for more than five minutes.
The session at the Event City venue raised more than £59,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society which supports those affected by the neurological condition.
Mr O’Riley said: “I signed up because it’s a good and fun thing to do and my younger brother Tim has MS which makes it more poignant.
“He has had it for eight years and it’s starting to wear him down.
“They did a similar event in 2009 and must have had 500 or so guys who together raised £60,000."
Mr O’Riley will join drummers from Elbow, the Verve, The Treatment and Faithless, with every entrant bringing their own four-piece set to the world record attempt event.
“It’s a bit of a geek festival as we will all be looking at each other’s sets,” Mr O’Riley said.
The 45-year-old, who has six drum kits at his home in Park Avenue, is aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity.
