Don’t let up in bid to save water

By Victoria Smith

South East Water is encouraging customers to use water wisely – come rain or shine.

The company says signs of recovery from drought are being seen in its underground sources, with rainfall from the last three months now reaching water reserve.

Lee Dance, head of water resources and environmental, said: “It is good news that our vital underground sources are beginning to recover, with some encouraging signs that levels are stabilising in some areas, while in one or two others they are rising.

“We are continually reviewing the need for restrictions, but in the meantime we are asking our customers to continue being sensible with their water use.

“With three quarters of the water we supply to our 2.1 million customers coming from these underground sources, it is essential that we remain prudent when managing them, as we have no control over the weather.”

Groundwater levels are updated at www.southeastwater.co.uk where you can also find advice on how to save water around the home and garden.

It is a major concern that huge housing developments are proposed in the area and yet Soth East Water is having difficulty in servicing the current population.
