With just days to go until the Olympic Torch Relay passes through Ascot and Bracknell, Olympic fever has hit.

The route the flame will travel along as it passes through the two towns on Tuesday has been decorated with banners as thousands of people are expected to line the streets.

Councillor Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, corporate services and public protection at Bracknell Forest Council, said: “Excitement about the Torch coming to Bracknell is really building, and lots of people are now starting to think about their own arrangements for this special day.

“Our advice to spectators is to arrive early (but not too early); for drivers to be patient; for residents on the route to plan ahead if they need to get anywhere; and for businesses on the route to start early and leave early or start late and stay late. It is anticipated a large number of people will line the route, and we want everyone to have a truly memorable day.”

The torch will arrive in Ascot via the A329 London Road at 4.26pm, making its way down the High Street to Ascot Racecourse at 4.35pm.

After a 20-minute break, the flame will leave the Racecourse at 5.20pm, passing Heatherwood Hospital before travelling to Bracknell at 5.24pm.

Bracknell should expect the torch at the end of New Forest Ride at around 5.30pm and it will be carried along London Road, Millennium Way and Skimped Hill Lane, before returning to the convoy for the short journey to Reading where the evening celebration will take place.

Spectators are reminded the Olympic Torch will not be visible until the first Torchbearer sets off from the end of New Forest Ride.

The roads in Ascot will be temporarily closed from 4pm to around 5.30pm and Bracknell roads from 5.15pm to 6.15pm. While the road closures will be kept to a minimum, residents and businesses along the route are warned to expect some disruption.

The council has published a web page with information about the Relay – including a map of the road closures and car parks at www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/london2012
