Traveller policy to be rubber-stamped tonight

By Victoria Smith
July 03, 2012

A new policy for coping with illegal traveller encampments in Bracknell Forest is to be rubber-stamped tonight.

Bracknell Forest Council and Thames Valley Police have produced criteria and procedures for the eviction of travellers who invade public and private land.

The protocol report reads: “Berkshire has experienced a considerable number of unauthorised encampments on public and private land by gypsies and travellers in recent years.

“Trespass is a civil breach with powers of eviction available to landowners, local authorities and the police.”

The document is due to be approved at a meeting tonight.
