A royal guest will squeeze in a trip to Bracknell in his hectic jubilee year schedule to officially open the gardens at the borough’s arts centre.

Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, will visit South Hill Park in Ringmead, Birch Hill, on Tuesday, July 24.

More than £4 million has been spent by Bracknell Forest Council and Bracknell Town Council on the revamp after both secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Councillor Iain McCracken, Bracknell Forest Council’s executive member for corporate services, who chaired the steering group that worked on the project, said: “We are delighted the Earl of Wessex will be coming to South Hill Park.

“We have been trying to organise this since October.”
