Shop could become eaterie

By Hugh Fort
June 25, 2012

A new eaterie could be coming to Bracknell if plans to convert a shop into a restaurant are given the green light.

Paul Clabburn has applied to Bracknell Forest Council for permission to develop unit 2 at Market Street in the town changing it from a shop unit into a restaurant.

Bracknell Forest Council’s planning department is now considering the planning application.

It is expected that a decision on the plans will be made by Friday, August 13.

I wish I could afford a unit in the town to do my home cooked meals like I do down the market cafe. Where else can you get such a treat!! Alas, I doubt there are many shops that can be bought up like in a town that was on the news where the new owner is renting the shops out for £85 per week. Councils don't look at it like that though. They would rather shops lay vacant than letting small businesses take them over for a minimal rent.

Market St is deeply unattractive and not a nice location for eating out; just a rat run that no one stops in.

What is the Bracknell Council plan for Market Street? The council should be identifying an area of the town centre that is suitable for restuarants and then encouraging new premises into that area. At the minute it seems bent on pushing existing restuarants further away from the town centre. The lack of any sensible plan to relocate those displaced by developments around the market are typical of its attitude.

We could do with more restaurants in Bracknell town centre, although I hope it's a nice one...
