Injured Mrs Duck has a tale to tell

A duck who lives in a pond in Wokingham town centre has been happily reunited with her mate after fracturing her leg.

The animal, known as Mrs Duck, was taken to Nine Mile Veterinary Hospital in Finchampstead where her injured left leg was mended.

Clinical director Emily Caddick said: “We all felt sorry for her so my colleague and I anaesthetised her, put the fracture back in place and bandaged it, giving her a little cast.”

She was brought into the practice on Thursday, May 3.

Mrs Duck was then taken to Raven Haven in Crowthorne where she recovered for 10 days before being released in the pond, close to the civic offices in Shute End, where her partner was waiting for her.

Miss Caddick added: “She must have got it stuck somewhere and yanked it, but they often don’t recover from it.”

Don't worry. This pond is obviously a danger to wild life by attracting them to one of the south's busiest premier retailing destinations and it should be concreted over forthwith. There will of course be a consultation before this happens.

We can anticipate accidents like this happening much more frequently when the neighbouring Elms Field has been concreted over.
