A community has been shaken and shocked after a 43-year-old woman from Bracknell was murdered near their home.
Residents who live in the quiet residential areas surrounding the underpass where a battered body was discovered at 8am this morning have spoken of their shock.
Seth Asare, 47, of Barn Close, whose property is metres from where the body was found, said: "It is shocking news - we have lived here a long time and there has never been anything like this happen.
"I have four children and they will be downhearted - we use that underpass every day to take them to school."
The underpass is the main route for hundreds of residents every day who walk to and from the town centre.
Mum-of-one Esther Sulla, 38, of Barn Close, whose house backs on to the murder scene, said: "I heard screams last night but it is normal to hear shouting or noise.
"My daughters window was open - it's frightening."
The site remains cordoned off, which has attracted attention from neighbours and concerned residents throughout the day.
Phil Bennett, 54, of Barn Close, said: "This is unusual for this area - everybody knows everybody.
"I am scared for my grandchildren."
It was initially thought that the victim was in her 20s which sparked speculation and fear from teenagers using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Hannah Young, 18, of Deepfield Road, said: "Everybody is very scared and shocked.
"It's all over Facebook as we thought it could be someone we know."
Despite the sunny weather, the area remained quiet as a forensic investigation continued throughout the day.
Mark Leach, 41, of Deepfield Road, said: "The feeling between parents is we do not want to let our children out."
The passers-by who discovered the body were on the scene receiving support from police.
They described the woman as oriental and said it had been a big shock to discover a dead body.
Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
