A garden centre that is being given a new lease of life will launch a craft fair next month.
The Moss End Garden Centre, Bowyer’s Lane, will host ‘Handmade in Berkshire’ on Monday, May 7, with 20 stalls selling items such as soft furnishings, Jubilee bunting and cushions.
The ‘soft launch’ is part of ongoing changes being overseen by project manager Karen Lynch.
She said: “We have a lot of exciting things coming up.
“At the moment we are working towards a cooperative set up, where the centre is run by the community for the community.
“We are looking for 10 to 12 people to keep a real community focus.”
The project manager, who also runs the Vintage Pavilion – an on-site antiques centre, hopes that local people will come on board and run the garden centre.
Karen said: “There are lots of changes – the centre hasn’t had any plants for years – but now we have filled it with new plant and seed stock.
“We don’t want to be like a big chain and we have a community focus group where people can have a say.”
Upcoming plans include developing land owned by the garden centre into 100 allotments as early as this summer and opening a farm shop.
Karen said: “There are big business opportunities and so many ways for people to be involved and have their say. We want local people to be a part of it.”
