Panic at the pumps as petrol supplies begin to run out

By Hugh Fort
March 29, 2012

Queues are beginning to build at petrol stations around Bracknell as drivers stock up amid fears of a strike by tanker drivers.

Forecourts around the borough were packed with drivers and some garages are reporting they are starting to run out.

Are you worried about a fuel shortage? Have your say on our poll

The Shell garage in Bagshot Road has confirmed it has run out of diesel but has "plenty" of unleaded left.

The BP in Wokingham Road is running low on both petrol and diesel but a delivery is expected later today.

BP in London Road is also low but a delivery is expected later.

A spokesman for BP said while supplies in the garages themselves are running low, there has been no problem with deliveries and one is expected later.

But Shell garage in John Nike Way, Binfield, is currently out of fuel.

A delivery is expected later today but there was no petrol or diesel at the station at around 2.30pm today.

It is not known whether garages in the Sandhurst area are experiencing problems.

A CRAZED motorist is brandishing a mobile phone on a garage forecourt, it has emerged. As the petrol crisis deepens, 38-year-old sales manager Roy Hobbs has been cordoned off by the military as he threatens to press the green 'call' button on his iPhone 3, which would trigger the vague but dreadful Thing That Happens When You Use Your Phone at a Garage. Technologist Nikki Hollis said: "While it is not altogether clear why one must not use a mobile at a garage - no one has ever done it - we are fairly sure the result involves a crater, possibly also massive carnivorous slug things issuing from the bowels of the earth, like in the evergreen Kevin Bacon film Tremors.

"Texting is fine though, it's just voice calls that are the problem."

A nation gone mad! seriously there is no need to panic buy. if anybody had actually watched the news over the last couple of nights, they would have seen that the Army have been trained and are ready to step in and take over the deliveries SHOULD industrial action occur. Panic buying will do nothing but cause problems with fuel shortages and careless drivers trying to get around the lines to get into super markets. i deliberately only put £10 in today as i was on red but it was more to prove a point. You dont need to stock pile to make sure you get fuel. Jut use your loaf the more people stock pile the more forecourts run out and deliveries cant keep up with demand. Simple really its not the possible industrial action causing the problem, but moronic people that cant seem to engage their brains.

Beef - Nuts? Are you kidding me? You've probably started a stampede to the nearest crisp aisle now.

I panicked last night and dug out some jerry cans when I saw the queues at Sainsburys - but soon realised there was a rush on light pastry snacks and scotch eggs.

It's crazy isn't it! It's not like there is even a confirmed strike yet.

The whole world has gone nuts.

Br - no strike has been announced! That's the point.

The only problems I experienced were price related. Days before the strike was announced. Convenient?

The one problem I've experienced is the idiotic drivers who don't know how to queue onto a garage forecourt without causing chaos for every other road user. Especially when half the pumps at Sainsburys were free!

You know hoses on pumps can fit either side of a car....

Then again this fuel-pocalypse has been caused by the ineptitude of the coalition government.

There is not even a threat of a strike. Just a ballot. That's all.
