The future of the Ascot Birth Centre at Heatherwood Hospital was debated at a public meeting yesterday.
A public board meeting of Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust took place at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough where the future of the centre was discussed.
The Ascot Birth Centre has been closed since September because of lack of staff, due to long-term sick leave and maternity leave.
The management at the Heatherwood and Wexham Park NHS Foundation Trust said originally that they hoped the centre would re-open this month.
However, chief executive Philippa Slinger also stated that while the unit was closed, a review would be carried out as to whether it was viable to re-open it.
The problem was the low number of births carried out there – just 35 a month
