A couple injured following a suspected house fire at their home in Ascot are making “good progress” in their recovery.

John and Sylvia Munro, both in their 70s, suffered burns when a blast destroyed their detached home in Sutherland Chase on November 23.

Mr Munro was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire with 26 per cent burns to his head and knees. He was discharged on December 9 and is making good progress as an outpatient.

His wife suffered 60 per cent burns and was treated at the National Burns Unit in Swansea but has since been moved to Stoke Mandeville.

A spokesman for the hospital said: “Sylvia Munro remains an inpatient and is making good progress. She is likely to be discharged in the next couple of weeks.”

The Health and Safety Executive is still investigating the explosion.
