More carriages 'will help boost growth' says Dr Phillip Lee

December 07, 2011

Bracknell’s MP has welcomed plans to increase the number of carriages on train services.

Earlier this week the government announced passengers on some of the country’s busiest rail routes would benefit from extra seats.

In the Thames Valley, nearly 4,500 extra seats will be added to services in and out of London Paddington.

Dr Phillip Lee said: “This is great news for rail passengers in the Bracknell constituency.

“I am well aware of the problems of rail overcrowding left behind by Labour, so I am pleased to see this government taking action.

“This is one of the busiest rail routes in the country, so it is very welcome that we are investing in 4,500 additional seats each day into and out of London Paddington.

“It will also provide important support for economic growth.”

A lot of people in the "Far North" of the Borough/Constituency use Twyford or Maidenhead stations. People in Crowthrone and Sandhurst may go to Reading instead of changing at Wokingham. Also in the "South" going to Guildford is a option. Where is the center of Dr Lee "Bracknell" constituency? I should think it's now in Crowthorne since Adam Afriyie got all of the North bits of "Bracknell Forest".

We used to have more capacity on the Reading-Waterloo line,1 fast and 2 slow trains per hour. That was cut back in th 80's and never reinstated.Since then there has been a period of fast economic growth so I should like to know how Dr Lee reckons that extra capacity will produce economic growth in the Bracknell area.Is this the same line of thought that made him believe that marginally reducing journey times between London and Birmingham by the ridiculous and unnecessary HS2 would reduce pressure for housing in Bracknell? I suggested to Dr Lee when he was first elected that to reduce costs he should travel to his workplace by train and that way he would understand the problems faced by commuters every day.He never bothered to respond. He has never answered any of the questions I have put to him on local, national or international matters. Is this the man we want as our MP?He does live in the constituency doesn't he?

Well who's going to be the first to announce they're standing against him as an Independent at the next election? For the people not the Party!

I like what Paddy Ashdown did when seeking a constituency. He'd been involved in youth work in Somerset after leaving the SBS/MI5/MI6/Foreign Office. He failed in his first attempt and the incumbent MP carried on in his usual arrogant way, believing he had a seat for life, no representation of constituents whatsoever.

But Paddy got out and about and started acting as though he actually was the MP. Turned up for everything, got involved in local life, supported campaigns and the people. Turns out the seat wasn't so safe after all.

He's a busy man with two jobs, he can't be expected to get the little details correct. http://bracknellblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/dr-phillip-lees-mp-surgeries-earns-him.html

Hands up if you go to London via Reading during the rush-hour??? Dr Lee .... vast majority of residents in Bracknell use Bracknell or Martins Heron stations to go to London WATERLOO ..... that line URGENTLY needs longer trains and more of them .... and can you get them to stop calling at some stations inside the M25? No? of course you can't I know it doesnt bother you in First Class or in your London flat that we are paying for ......

Phillip - we've missed you. Been away on holiday. You have a lot of catching up to do but no doubt you'll be back to your standard practice of soundbites about absolutely anything but ultimately nothing. I suspect you'd even give Bracknell the benefit of your keen political insight into the opening of a biscuit tin.

When I say standard practice of course I don't wish to confuse you and think I meant your day job in Slough.

If our alleged MP knew anything about his constituency he would know that the vast majority of commuters use the Waterloo to Reading line, which is having no extra carriages.

The extra carriages are on the line to Paddington, which happens to serve Maidenhead, where he lives. Surprise, surprise!

Surely the Bracknell MP should be more interested in improving the rail services from Bracknell rather than those from Reading! Why do the trains to Bracknell from Waterloo all have to serve as a local comuter service within London? Reducing the number of stops within greater London would speed up the service and allow room for people to board at Waterloo and possibly find a seat.
