Road works to cause delays on A329M

August 10, 2010

Road works are set to cause disruption on the A329M with lanes being shut so average speed cameras can be installed.

The disruption comes as work continues to build the link road between the A329M, Peacock Lane and the Jennett’s Park estate.

From Monday, August 16, a 50mph limit will be in place and will be enforced by average speed cameras.

The average speed cameras are being installed this week and will cause disruption today, tomorrow and on Thursday.

Tonight and on Wednesday there will be overnight lane closures on the westbound carriageway. On Thursday there will be overnight lane closures in both directions while the cameras are calibrated.

More information on the work, which is scheduled for completion in the winter, is available at www.a329roadworks.co.uk.

Motorists in Bracknell have also been caught in traffic tailing back from roadworks on the A322 in Bagshot.

The roadworks are taking place in Surrey but have caused lengthy queues in busy times which have affected Bagshot Road in Bracknell.

How long has a speed limit been a minimum speed limit? A 60mph limit means that is the maximum speed which should be achieved. Sorry but if I feel it is safer to drive at 40mph along that road, then that is the speed at which I will drive. I will not be breaking the law like those people who execeed the limit.

Awesome! ... can I drive home first please? I need to be alive this weekend.

Yeah, apologies for being agressive. It actually wasn't intended to sound that harsh, but it clearly does. I should have added a smiley, for all the difference that would have made. The rest was more of a rant about my commute than you. I can't realistically comment on your driving - I've never seen you drive, that I'm aware of. Your typo made it sound like you were one of the four drivers I'd been stuck behind on my way in - doing between 30 and 40mph in 60mph and 70mph zones with clear roads ahead. I'd get past one, safely, and find myself behind another one a short distance up the road. Lucky for me, I wasn't able to let my anger get the better of me and pass them with extra speed on the 40 stretch through Bracknell - the police were doing spot checks at the time.

I'm not an agressive driver, I don't have any points, and I don't expect to drive at the speed limit when the conditions don't allow for it, but I do get frustrated by people who clearly have no idea about speed limits or lane discipline and I let that frustration boil over in my post (which is probably better than doing it while on the road).

And, yes, I'm having a very stressful day. Thank you for not flying off the handle back. That would have been my fault if you had.

Here's to hoping my commute home will include fewer 40-ers.

hahaha that is funny...driving under the speed limit, that's what women, old people and learners do! I share your frustration at those who drive at 40 around those roads, I used to live in Camberley, and have also done the bracknell to Camberley commute...it's irritating to say the least!

But this part: "Go take a look at your highway code before you ever get behind a wheel again if you are making such a basic mistake."

Wow, agressive!! I actually hadn't noticed that I pressed the '6' button on my keyboard as opposed to the '7' (they are so far apart after all) but it's cool, you're clearly tense today! Anyone would have thought i'd just run you over whilst drunk in a stolen, uninsured car! I'm a perfectly capable driver, don't need any help with my highway code but thanks for the suggestion.

Now, if you'll excuse me, i'm off to slam to a grinding hault at an amber light, roll over the line, park in a box junction, turn without signalling, swear at any cyclist that gets in my way and have 7 pints of Stella...and drive home.

60mph, Brad???? Are you serious!!! Go take a look at your highway code before you ever get behind a wheel again if you are making such a basic mistake. It is a derestricted dual carriageway and therefore it is 70mph. Are you someone who drives at 40mph on the A322 from Twin Bridges to the Horse and Groom too, or perhaps 40mph along Foresters Way around Camberely? There is no such thing as an unsigned 40mph limit. Again, these roads are derestricted (and even have repeaters to say that), and are single carriageway roads - limit 60mph. If you don't know your speed limits, go do some reading.

Nearly all roadworks with lane restrictions on dual-carriageways and motorways now come with a 50mph speed limit, and most are enforced with average speed cameras, and they don't cause huge tailbacks. There are many examples of this along the M4. It is for the safety of the workers, and is a good idea. What does cause tailback is lane closures, especially from two lanes into one. My worry is that with the Finachampstead Road being closed, and roadworks along the A322 up to the M3 causing absolutely catastrophic tailbacks at all hours of the day (because of a lane closure), any lane closures to "calibrate a speed camera" will mean you can't drive anywhere around Wokingham/Bracknell without sitting in 30 minutes of traffic.

I believe that it it for the safety of the people working on the new road connection. The details of the connection to the new road at the website given look quite clever, and designed to minimise disruption. And people certainly do more that 60 along there.

What a joke! Why impose a 50mph limit on a 60mph road? This going to cause so many tailbacks it's unreal. Yet another stupid decision by some over-paid, under-knowledged idiot.
