Home scheme helps family's dream come true

July 28, 2010

BFC My Home Buy is being run in conjunction with other schemes aimed at helping people in Bracknell Forest to move into their own homes.

The council has also launched a cash incentive scheme which lets people who live in social housing apply for a grant to help them with the deposit on a house of their own.

£1m leg up the housing ladder

The Doyle-Vandervlist family applied to the council and got a grant of £38,000 to help them move out of a three-bedroomed property rented from a social landlord in Harmans Water into a home of their own nearby.

Nicolas, Johanna and their three children moved into their home earlier this year and to help them celebrate Bracknell MP Dr Phillip Lee presented Johanna with a bouquet of flowers.

Cllr Birch said: “Congratulations to the Doyle-Vandervlist family for moving into a home of their own.

“Getting a foot on the housing ladder is a great feeling so I’m pleased the council was able to help.”

The council has also launched a mortgage scheme where applicants can borrow up to 95 per cent of the value of a shared ownership home in Bracknell Forest.

- For information on either scheme you can speak to a member of the council’s housing options team by calling (01344) 351352 or (01344) 351198 or by visiting www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/councilmortgages.

Very nice for those who are already helped with their housing costs by being allocated social housing. Now how about extending the offer to ALL first time buyers many of whom are hardworking single people who will never come to the top of the list and be offered social housing. They are too busy working to pay their high rents for property rented from the private sector.
