KFC bringing jobs and fast-food to Woodley

July 23, 2010

Fast food fans are being asked to help a takeaway company in its search to find the best place to start up a new restaurant in Woodley.

KFC has confirmed it is looking to set up a branch in the area but wants local people to help decide its location.

The announcement follows rumours, which were voiced at a Woodley Town Centre Management Initiative (WTCMI) meeting last Wednesday, a new takeaway restaurant will move into the Lloyds Pharmacy in Crockhamwell Road when it relocates to a new unit in the town centre in Library Parade.

The fast food chain has said it is looking for potential sites to provide residents of Woodley and Wokingham with not only hot southern fried chicken but also around 30 new jobs.

Nina Arnott, KFC spokeswoman, said: “We’d love to open new Drive Thru restaurants in the area, and are currently looking for sites in both Woodley and Wokingham, although we haven’t been able to find any suitable locations yet.

“A new restaurant would create around 30 jobs in the community, and we’d love to hear from anybody with any news of potential Drive Thru sites, specifically in and around the Shepherds Hill, London Road and Wokingham Road locations.”

To be a member of the working class, you have to be working. If you aren't working and hang around fast food joints, then you are a chav. Probably with a staffordshire bull terrier, a permanent scowl and several "baby mothers".

So if you visit KFC you must be a chav (offensive term aimed at the working class by other members of the working class who think they're a cut above). A lot of people who comment on here really ought to ditch the classism and stop making sweeping generalizations. Btw, I don't personally do burgers or KFC, or live in Woodley, and know very little about this subject and care less.

So is Moonlight Indian next door. Sorry to upset you, but you do have a rubbish user name, as do I. Don't worry about PCWatch, he never leaves the treacle mines of Tadley.

@ PC Watch Is the milieu of your locality so very different from Woodley? I wasn't aware of a cultural mecca in Reading. I'd love to visit.

ps Chicken wings from Chicken 'n' Pizza on Hudson Road are proper tasty

The old Rover garage next to the Texaco and George pub at Loddon bridge would be an ample location if they helped sort out that entire set of traffic lights, AND (with amphasis) made sure to clean up the rubbish that would no doubt find its way into Riverside park.

The amount of class hatred you see in these comments sections is extraordinary! Constantly going on about 'chavs' and 'proles' is a sign of somebody who's none too confident in their own social status. For heaven's sake, grow up and join the 21st century.

Knock down the Oakwood Centre and put it there. The architecture would be an improvement.

No do not let them move in, next we'll have Mcdonalds and all the other chav hang outs. I hope Woodley Council turn down any application received. Fast Food chains are not required in Woodley.

The old lex garage at the top of Shepherds Hill would be good as they would get all the A$ traffic passing through and it would still be close enough to Woodley folk who want it, and out of the way to thos who don't.
