Eight 'illegal immigrants' arrested in lorry

By Hugh Fort
February 03, 2010

Eight suspected illegal immigrants have been arrested after they were spotted leaving the back of a lorry.

The lorry was stopped on the Twin Bridges Roundabout in Bracknell at around 11.30am this morning, and the men and women were arrested and have been detained in custody.

The driver, a man, was also arrested on immigration offences.

It is not yet known where the lorry is from or where it was travelling to.

Police sent up a helicopter to look for anyone who may have escaped, but the search has now ended and it is not thought there is anyone outstanding.

The matter has been referred to the UK Borders Agency.

mavdo, I agree... it's a shame there's so much tragedy and crime to report.

Don't wish for things you don't want, CL. Someone said a similar thing on getreading, and it was followed by a murder, a double fatal accident because a car failed to stop, an armed robbery, a series of criminal damage acts and burglaries, and burglary of a petrol station. All in a week.

Included within this there are very sad stories on those who lost their lives and the devastating effects on their friends and families. I'd rather Bracknell was quieter than that. In fact, I'd rather the only stories available were the opening of a youth centre and a cat stuck up a tree.
