Hairy Bikers reveal adventures to Waitrose staff

By Hugh Fort
January 28, 2010

Globetrotting cooks the Hairy Bikers told tales of their adventures including Essex being worse than Iraq and the delights of stewed goats’ bits when they visited a Bracknell company.

Si King and Dave Myers held a question and answer session with staff at Waitrose in Doncastle Road on Tuesday.

They also signed copies of their new book Mums Know Best: The Hairy Bikers’ Family Cookbook.

One of the questions staff asked included what was the most disgusting thing they had eaten on their travels.

Si said the goats’ bits hotpot wasn’t a highlight. “It was basically goats’ bits in broth, which wasn’t nice.”

Dave said the sun-dried caterpillars in Africa weren’t great, adding “imagine the smell of an adolesecent’s trainer mixed with rotten beef”, but the excellent local beer helped take away the taste.

Another questioner asked where was the most dangerous place they had been.

After discounting Iran and Iraq, Dave cited travelling to Essex from the other end of the country during last year’s heavy snow as the most difficult.

The book is available from high street retailers.
