Clear up begins for flood-hit families

November 26, 2009

Neighbours whose houses were devastated by floods caused by a burst water pipe have been coming to terms with the damage.

Six houses in Milward Gardens, Binfield, were flooded when a high pressure water main beneath nearby London Road burst on Monday, November 16.

It is the third flood the neighbours have dealt with in three years.

Burst pipe misery for families

Last week getbracknell reported the immediate aftermath of the flood, which was waist-high in some places, but now neighbours are trying to get back to life as normal.

One of them, Dmitry Seregin, said: “The repairs are coming along slowly. There are dryers in the house and the floors have been taken out so we are walking on bare concrete.

“It’s unpleasant timing because of Christmas coming up and because of the time of year – if it was warm outside, walking around on bare concrete wouldn’t be so bad.

“As it is, it’s cold and it will make my family more prone to getting ill.”

Emma Baker, who found her 10-month-old daughter’s teddy floating down the road last Monday, said:

“Things are OK. They took the dehumidifiers away [on Tuesday] and I’m just waiting for new flooring to be put in. We’ve pretty much got the garden straight and they’ve been to sweep all the gravel and dirt from the road.”
