Delays expected on Waterloo line until January

November 19, 2009

Flood damage to a railway bridge on the Reading to Waterloo line is expected to disrupt journeys for commuters into the new year.

Rail passengers from Bracknell, Wokingham and Reading are being advised to travel into London Paddington via Reading, while part of the line remains closed due to damage caused to a bridge over a river near Feltham.

Passengers should go via Paddington

First Great Western, which operates the Reading to Paddington line, is accepting South West Trains tickets.

Network Rail engineers are working to repair the damaged bridge in Feltham so the line can be re-opened by the end of the week. But they warn of further delays as more repair work goes on.

A spokeswoman for South West Trains said: “We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused and have in place contingency plans to ensure as little disruption as possible for passengers travelling on the routes from Reading to Waterloo via Staines and from Windsor to Waterloo via Staines.”

Shame there is not an update to this story to highlight the herculean effort made by Network Rail to put a temporary diversion in around this bridge and restore through services to London Waterloo in time for Monday morning's rush hour.
