Will the wonder of Woolies work for new charity store?

July 06, 2009

Another charity shop has opened up its doors in the town centre – in the unit vacated by Woolworths.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) furniture and electrical store was officially opened by Bracknell Town Council mayor councillor Chas Bailey on Wednesday.

Donations have already stocked the store with everything from a three-piece suite and beds, to coffee makers, televisions, washing machines, microwaves, hair dryers and printers.

The store, based in Broadway, will offer a free collection service and is expecting a “big” response from local customers.

Rob Rose, BHF area manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome the mayor to the opening of the new BHF Furniture and Electrical store.

“So far we’ve had a brilliant response from the local community and we’re hoping that our new venture in Bracknell will be a great success.

“Recycling your unwanted goods by donating them to BHF is a great practical way for people to help fight disease and support others in the community, as well as helping the environment. In addition to good quality donations, we need more volunteers to come forward.”

All the money made will go towards helping the charity fight heart disease and support sufferers.

The unit has been vacant since Woolworths closed down all its stores nationwide in January.

Other units still vacant include Miss Selfridge in Princess Square, Adams in Broadway and M&S Simply Food in Princess Square.

Rob Morris, retail manager at Bracknell Regeneration Partnership said he was delighted.

“They will add real value to the town centre by providing visitors and residents with a genuinely new offering to the current retail mix,” he said.
