Cyclists’ safety test for children

July 01, 2009

A pilot cycling proficiency test for children will be launched this summer in Bracknell Forest.

The Bikeability scheme, which is the modern equivalent of the cycling proficiency test, will run for two weeks this August benefiting up to 40 children.

Letters will be sent to schools to drum up interest in the course, which will cost £40 per child for one week with two hours of lessons per day.

Tina Housego, Bracknell Forest Council road safety officer, said places would be offered on a first come first served basis.

Bikeability manager Paul Robinson said: “Cycling is a great way for children to incorporate exercise into their daily routine.

“And because Bikeability is a nationally-recognised, Government-backed scheme, parents can be reassured that their child has been given the skills to cycle safely and confidently – something every community can benefit from.”

If you want to get involved, contact the road safety team on (01344) 351191 or (01344) 351212.
