Police clampdown on fly-tippers

Fly-tippers who dumped nearly 100 tyres in a housing area have sparked a clampdown by police and a housing association.

Bracknell Forest Homes and Thames Valley Police have teamed up to tackle illegal fly-tipping after the incident last month in the garage area of Shepherds Lane, Priestwood.

The tyres were discovered by the housing association's Neighbourhood Estate Action Team (NEAT), which patrols areas to keep them clean and safe.

Linda Wells, housing and community services director at Bracknell Forest Homes, said: “Our NEAT is very proactive in the local estates and working closely with the police and the council to enhance the local environment and make the area safe and pleasant.

“These instances are not tolerated and are illegal so we will prosecute people who commit these offences and spoil the area for other residents.”

Plans were quickly made to have the tyres removed.

Acting chief inspector Mark Harling said: “This is not only an eyesore but can be a source of more anti-social behaviour and, as a hazardous material, is a major arson, and health and safety risk.”

A trial estate action day took place in Harmans Water last Thursday.
