Longshot Lane dump will close for a week

June 30, 2009

Bracknell tip will shut for a week while the final preparations are made to the site to increase recycling in the town.

The dump in Longshot Lane has undergone a 16 month revamp to make it easier for people to recycle more.

It will close on Monday, July 6 and will reopen as Longshot Lane household waste recycling centre on Monday, July 13.

Eco-conscious residents will be able to recycle a number of new materials including beverage cartons, mobile phones and printer cartridges.

The layout has also been changed to improve the traffic flow.

The recycling and rubbish centre was developed by the re3 partnership, which is made up of Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham borough councils and the Waste Recycling Group.

The partnership aims to increase the amount that is reused, recycled and composted across the boroughs and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

During the closure people can recycle at any of the 39 recycling sites across the town and garden waste can be put in a biodegradable brown sack or a brown wheelie bin to be collected by the council's kerbside recycling teams.

Bracknell and Wokingham residents can also use Reading’s Smallmead household waste recycling centre in Island Road.
