The day Andrew MacKay faces constituents

May 22, 2009

Shamed Bracknell MP Andrew MacKay will face his constituents at a meeting in Bracknell this evening.

Voters from the Tory politician's constituency and registered on the electoral roll will get a chance to quiz him at the Kerith Centre.

Only constituents with a ticket will be allowed at the meeting, which kicks off at 7pm.

Mr MacKay decided to organised the meeting after he was named and shamed in the MPs' expenses scandal that ripped through Westminster last week.

The 59-year-old was forced to resign from his post as parliamnetary aide to Tory leader David Cameron after it was revealed he and his wife, fellow MP Julie Kirkbride, had both been claimimg for second home allowance when they share two homes.

In total the couple claimed £282,731 in expenses since 2001, of which more than £140,000 was claimed by Mr MacKay alone.

He also claimed for goblets, tumblers and a bin as well as for cleaning his London home and reglazing his conservatory.

For tickets for tonight's meeting, please call (01344) 868286 or email bracknellca@tory.org.

An MP having a meeting is a waste of time - saying sorry without meaning it, avoiding a direct answer to a simple question and generally glossing over the issues - it's what they do best; after obtaining money by deception, that is.
