New vicarage plan refused

April 20, 2009

An application to knock down a Bracknell town centre vicarage has been turned down by planning bosses.

The Oxford Diocese, which oversees churches in Bracknell Forest, wanted to bulldoze the vicarage in Park Road and build a state-of-the-art new one.

But at a meeting Bracknell Forest Council bosses refused to grant the plan permission saying it was out of keeping with the area and would block sunlight on neighbouring homes.

The plan also involved cutting down trees, which councillors rules would harm the environment.

The vicarage is affiliated to Holy Trinity Church in The Ring.

Diocese spokeswoman Sarah Meyrick said: “The vicarage is old and the diocese wants it brought up to date.

“The application was turned down but the plan is still to modernise the vicarage and put forward a new application in due course.”
