A man who survived cancer has appealed for sponsorship to make sure a charity event goes ahead this summer.

Councillor Marc Brunel-Walker, mayor of Bracknell town, needs backers for Relay for Life, which raises cash for Cancer Research UK.

Cllr Brunel-Walker is looking for sponsorship for various parts of the day such as £150 for security ID bands to £500 for a sound and lighting system.

He decided to organise the relay, which is linked to the Race Fore Life, because he survived testicular cancer in 2000.

The 24-hour event, which last year raised £87,000, is due to take place at Ascot Racecourse.

“We decided to break down the sponsorship this year to try and get more people involved," cllr Brunel-Walker said.

“We are also looking for more teams to sign up. At the moment we only have 21 and this time last year we had 38.

He added: "The event is inspirational and celebrates those who survive cancer, pays tribute to those who are touched by it and raises awareness through related activity and information.”

Sponsors will get their name on the race website as well on photos of the event and prominent labelling at the event.
