A step up for train travellers
April 06, 2009
One big step for a train company could mean no more steps for almost two million commuters every year.
A state-of-the-art new footbridge at Bracknell train station will link the two platforms using two lifts either side of a bridge so travellers no longer have to climb stairs to get across the tracks.
The £2.9million Network Rail project also includes CCTV and telephone links in the lifts.
Richard O’Brien, Network Rail’s Wessex route director, said: “The new facilities at Bracknell train station will make access easier for all passengers.”
Bracknell station is the start or end point for 1.9 million journeys every year and is to be further refurbished in a £200,000 project from Bracknell Forest Council and South West Trains later in the year.
