Amnesty International has called for the "immediate and unconditional" release of Bracknell mum Marnie Pearce.

The 40-year-old is serving a three-month jail sentence in Dubai after she was found guilty of cheating on her ex-husband, Egyptian Ihab El-Labban.

Now the international human rights charity has asked the Dubai authorities to release Marnie, describing her as a "prisoner of conscience".

Mum-of-two Marnie, who has lived in Dubai for 15 years, was locked up last month in the emirate's Al Awir jail.

Tim Hancock, Amnesty International UK campaigns director, said: “Marnie Pearce is a prisoner of conscience.

“She should be immediately and unconditionally released.

“She disputes the allegations against her, but they should not be a criminal matter in the first place.”

Marnie started her jail term on February 19 and when she is released she will be deported.

Her ex-husband has custody of their two children, four-year-old Ziad and Laith, seven, and the former classroom assistant fears she may never see them again.

Tim added: “The rights of these two young children are in serious danger of being forgotten in the dispute between their parents.

“The boys should be allowed to express their own opinion on what should happen to them.”

Marnie’s friends have set up a website to campaign against her conviction while she is in jail.

Supporters can read about Marnie’s case and donate money to cover legal fees for an appeal.

One legal appeal has already been dismissed, although a court did agree to reduce her original six-month sentence to three months.

A court heard Marnie's most recent appeal on Monday last week and a verdict is expected by March 16.
