Commuters across the Bracknell area have been advised not to travel today following heavy snow falls.

Hundreds of people in the area have been stranded at train stations and on the roads because of the severe weather conditions.

Most schools remain closed, all train services to London Waterloo have been cancelled and roads across the area are hit by traffic chaos.

South West Train is running an emergency service from Reading via Earley, Winnersh, Winnersh Triangle, Wokingham, Crowthorne and Bracknell but the company is advising people not to travel.

"As a result of severe weather, many services are subject to severe delays, short notice altera-tions and cancellation," its website said this morning.

"We are advising people to not travel where possible."

The Highways Agency has reported many minor accidents across Southern England and has recommended that people only make essential journeys.

There is more snow forecast for this afternoon and temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for most of the day.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the South East including Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell Forest.
