Friends and family of popular Jayne Soliman, who died two days before giving birth to a miracle baby, gathered to celebrate her life.

People packed Honies restaurant in Bracknell Ice Rink on Saturday to pay tribute to the former champion ice-skater who died from a brain haemorrhage on Wednesday, January 7.

Jayne’s husband Mahmoud Soliman attended the celebration of his late wife’s life who worked as a coach for Bracknell Ice Skating Club.

The couple’s daughter Aya Jayne, who was born by caesarean section two days after Jayne was declared dead, is in a stable condition in intensive care at Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

A video diary and book of condolences is being put together so  Aya will be able to see how many people loved her mum.

And a trust fund has been set up to care for her, because Jayne was the breadwinner while Mahmoud studied at university.

Carolyn Baldwin, of Helmsdale in Crown Wood, knew Jayne from when she taught her children to ice skate .

She said of the celebration of Jayne’s life: “There were absolutely loads of people there. It was very moving, but good fun at the same time.

“The video diary will be full of lovely messages and the book of condolences is so that when baby Aya is grown up she will be able to know all about her mum.

“The trust fund is a lovely idea. She [Aya] isn’t going to want for anything and she will always have a home in Bracknell as well as in Egypt.”

A group on online networking site Facebook was set up in memory of Jayne, 41.

Mahmoud wrote on Saturday: “I just want to thank everyone, without the support of you great people, I would have been far worse.

“Jayne was my best friend, my wife and my love. I am honoured to have been her husband... never wanted anything more, just wanted us to grow old together as we always pictured.

“Our wedding song words said, ‘if there is a mountain to move, I’d move that mountain for you’ and believe me, she was ready to do that for me.

“If giving away my life would have brought her back, I wouldn’t have thought twice.

“I love you baby, and you always said that you know that. But you are not here to answer me now. So again I have to say I LOVE YOU.”
