Broadmoor Primary School votes on new name
By Mike PyleJanuary 22, 2009
Pupils voted on a new name for their Crowthorne school yesterday to banish associations with the infamous Broadmoor Hospital.
Broadmoor Primary School decided to change its name after it noticed numbers dwindling over recent years and the choice has been left to children at the school.
Headteacher Delyth Edwards said the associations with the high security hospital had been a recurring issue over the 19 years she has been in charge.
Do you think a new name will help the school? What name do you think the school should choose? Have your say here.
So yesterday younsgters at the Lower Broadmoor Road school went to a polling station supplied by the council and voted for one of three names yesterday.
The proposed names are Addiscombe School, named after a nearby road, Wildmoor Heath School, after the village nature reserve, or Crowthorne Forest School.
Mrs Edwards said: “Children suggested a variety of names and the governors chose their favourite three. Now it’s up to the children.”
The school’s governors will ratify the winning candidate on Monday, February 2, and the new name will come into effect in September.
