Bunny escapes blaze

By Mike Pyle
November 06, 2008

A pet rabbit was rescued last night when firefighters were called to a house fire thought to have been caused by a faulty tumble drier.

The fluffy animal was in the kitchen of a family home in Nutley in Hanworth, Bracknell when the blaze started in the adjacent utility room at about 7.30pm.

Firefighters took 10 minutes to tackle the flames before rescuing  the rabbit.

The fire badly damaged the utility room and also caused smoke damage to other rooms in the home.

Two people were in the house at the time of the fire and two more arrived soon after but none were injured.

“When we arrived there was a lot of smoke and the tumble dryer was going well," firefighter Rob Read said.

“We had the fire out within 10 minutes and we were even able to rescue the pet rabbit in the kitchen next door!”

The crew stayed with the family until 9.30pm.
