Teen No 3 guilty in zoo carnage

November 06, 2008

A third teenager has been found guilty in court for his role in a violent rampage in a petting zoo that left chickens dead and other animals injured.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was present when two other boys aged 11 and 12 killed nine chickens by jumping and stamping on them.

They also tried to impale a goat on a spike and beat it around the head so hard that its horns fell off at Trilakes Animal Park in Sandhurst in June.

On Tuesday at Maidenhead Magistrates Court the teenager was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to protected animals by failure to act.

PC Gary Campion, who investigated the incident, said: “It was pure carnage – like a scene from a bad horror film.”

The 17-year-old will be sentenced on November 25 in Maidenhead.

In September, the 11-year-old involved in the attack was given a 12-month referral order and the 12-year-old was ordered to be supervised by a youth offending team for a year.
