Cult TV series ‘does not show us in best light’

By Mike Pyle
September 26, 2008

Thames Valley Police has decided not renew its contract to be filmed for cult TV series Road Wars.

Traffic police officers have became minor celebrities chasing baddies since 2002 on the Sky programme which often featured incidents in Bracknell.

But senior officers thought the fly-on-the-wall series did not reflect the force well.

“We’re not going to do any more series with them as it does not show us in the best light,” Sara Thornton, Thames Valley’s chief constable told Bracknell Forest councillors last week.

Councillor Tony Virgo, who has worked as a producer for shows including The Bill, told the full council meeting: “It shows the police as being far too lenient and exposes an impression that isn’t great for the police.”

YEAH SHAME ABOUT THIS!!!! IT WAS REALLY COOL SEEING THIS SHOW IN OOUR HOMEWTOWN NOW THEY ARE GOING TO SHOW SOUTH EAST CORNWALL/DEVON IN THEIR BEST LIGHT! I ONLY WATCHED IT BECAUSE ITW AS IN THE AREA BUT NOW IM NOT THAT INTERESTED THE PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT AND ITS QUITE BORING NOT THE SAME, IN THIS PROGRAMME POLICE LOOK FRIENDLY BUT I THINK ITS BECAUSE OF THE CAMERAMAN BEING THERE. ROADWARS WAS MY FAVOURITE PROGRAMME BUT NOW

ITS KIND OF BORING NOW BECAUSE THERE ARE NO KNEW EPISODES OF THE BRACKNELL POLICE OFFICERS JSUT THE PEOPLE IN DEVON AND ITS NOT REALLY FUN WATCHING THE SAME EPISODE THAT IS PUT ON THE T.V 10 TIMES A WEEK. I WAS INTERESTED IN BEING POLICE JUST TO BE FILMED BUT I GUEDSS I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO DEVON TO BE FILMED HAHA JOKES. IVE LIVED IN BRACKNELL FOR YEARS AND I HAVENT SEEN A ROAD WARS POLICE OFFICER, SHAME THOUGH!

BRING BACK ROADWARS IN BRACKNELL!

I have seen all the series and I am gutted to hear that Thames Valley Police is no long to carry on with the show. I personaly think the show, shows the police officers at its best, doing a brilliant job in a very difficult situation.

All the officers shown great deal of character, caringness, courage, professionalism and the determination to up hold the law.

I've seen a few of the shows and to be honest I think the officers were often very restrained! If I'd been attending some of the incidents i'd seen based in Bracknell i think i'd have clobbered the oiks!

Great show, shame its going!

I completely disagree with the comments made by James Edwards about the officers featured on the programme.

Well maybe the reason Thames Valley Police were not shown in the best light is down to the police officers rather then the people filming them. The cameraman can only film what he sees, can't he? So if top brass don't like what they see on TV then they should sort out their officers rather than just stop the public from seeing what's really happening on the streets!

Road Wars is a great programme but the officers featured seem a law unto themselves. Most of the time they don't act professionally and are quite often over the top (probably trying to show off on TV) and very rude to members of the public.

If you ask me, it's Thames Valleys loss - there are plenty more police forces in the UK that could be filmed by Road Wars!

Nooo.. I only watch Road Wars because its filmed in the area!

I think its great, and I often find myself appreciating what a good job the Police do when they are allowed to get on with it!
