Jennett's Park fire: neighbours speak out

Neighbours watched in horror as a fire raged inside a newly built block of homes.
The flames gutted a brand new building in development Jennett’s Park, Bracknell.
Shortly after 10pm yesterday firefighters were called to Merlin Way where the fire was destroying the unoccupied building of houses and flats.
People already living on the estate came out of their houses to watch the drama.
Belinda Blackman lives in Wren Close, immediately behind the now-devastated building.
She said: “It went from nothing to a massive blaze so quickly – it’s quite scary. It’s definitely something I won’t forget.
“It’s a really sad sight now.”
Guy Grieg, a piano teacher who lives in Merlin Way, said: “I didn’t see much at first but then I heard a noise like rain and then noises like a gate banging in the wind.
“I looked out and heard bangs and saw the light of the fire.
“It’s all a bit disconcerting.”
Jan Kenal, who lives in Sparrowhawk Lane opposite the building, said: “It’s such a shame, really unbelievable. I just wonder how these things start – it just seems suspicious that it can happen just like that at 10 at night.”
Another neighbour who lives in Wren Close said: “When I looked out I saw the whole of the middle of the roof on fire. The flames and burning bits were blowing towards me.
“My girlfriend came home while it was on fire and because she was coming from the other side she thought our flat was on fire too so she was quite scared.”
Police and fire investigators are looking into what caused the blaze, which may have been started deliberately.
