Six years wait for novel event

By Lucy Allen
September 10, 2008

A former librarian has published her first novel.

Fiona Seymour-Jesse’s tale of a woman who travels to New Zealand to visit her estranged mother can be bought on website amazon.co.uk.

Fiona, 30, said although she has only sold a handful of copies so far, just seeing her book, Distant Relatives, on the website is thrilling.

She has published the book through self-publishing website, lulu.com.

She said: “Although I only sent my book to a few agencies I didn’t feel that I would be taken seriously.

“I wanted to fulfil my dream of becoming an author and felt that self-publishing was the only route for me.

"Having my book published has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and I’m thrilled at last to be able to hold a copy in my hands.”

Fiona, who has worked as a librarian and now works in public relations and as a copywriter, was inspired to write the book after leaving university in 2001.

The book took her six years to write and she is now having a rest before embarking on a sequel.

Fiona, who lives in Burbage Green, Forest Park, with husband Alan, has published the novel in her maiden name of Seymour.

She said feedback from her friends and family had been good.

“Even my husband really enjoyed it.”
