Anxious wait for decision

August 04, 2008

People campaigning against a six-storey block of flats on the former RAF site face an anxious wait as the planning inspector retires to make his decision.

Members of Staff College Residents Against Madness (SCRAM) piled into the Easthampstead House council chamber on Thursday for the final day of the inquiry into the flats proposal.

Many of them used the chance to voice their opinions to planning inspector Robert Yuille, who also heard from the solicitors for developer Taylor Wimpey and the council and various expert witnesses over the three-day inquiry.

Mr Yuille is expected to make his decision whether to allow the flats in the next couple of weeks.

For a special report on the inquiry, see this week’s Standard.

Building on gree space. Damaging the character of the place. Increasing traffic. It's unacceptable - go on SCRAM!
