More strikes a possibility over pay increase of 2.5%

25/ 7/2008

Union members have warned of further strike action at Bracknell and Wokingham College if an agreement over pay is not settled.

Members of University and College Union (UCU) across the country are dissatisfied with a recommended increase of 2.5 per cent.

Talks with the Association of Colleges began again on Wednesday, June 25.

Sue Pitt, UCU Bracknell and Wokingham College branch secretary, said they hoped to avoid further stike action, but added there may be two days of strikes across the country in September if talks are unsuccessful.

College principal Howard O’Keeffe said: “Our staff do an excellent job and have made the college a successful institution in which £36 million of public money is being invested to build a new campus.

“I wish we could pay them more, but this would require higher funding.

“This is why we support the UCU in their campaign."
