Crunch hits as building work slows

Building work at new mini-town Jennett’s Park has slowed as the development falls victim to the economic downturn which has hit the nation.

Although prospective buyers continue to visit the development off the A329M, Richard Brown, manager of Carsons Estate Agent in Bracknell, said: “I know some of the new building developments have really slowed down.”

And spokesman for the development Nick Skregg said: “Jennett’s Park is not immune to the current economic circumstances and issues principally associated with mortgage availability.

“As is good business practice, we continually review our construction rates at all sites including Jennett’s Park to ensure they match current and projected sales rates.”

A spokesman for the Union of Construction, Trades and Allied Technicians said the problem was not just happening in Bracknell – building work has slowed all over the country and the South East was not worst affected.

He added: “We have been approached by people who have been made redundant from housing developments and we are dealing with it.

“It is important to remember however that housing developments only account for about 15 per cent of all construction work.”

But Mr Brown said a positive spin on the situation was it was a good time for buyers who wanted to move up the ladder.

“There are quite a lot of part exchanges going on as well, which takes some of the hassle out for people,” he said.

He added it was now possible to buy a four or five-bedroom home in the area for around £300,000.
