Fancy a break? Book the Bracknell Forest...

By Mike Pyle
July 04, 2008

A stay in Bracknell Forest could include a scenic tour of a cardamom plantation, a cycle ride up a mountain and a truly authentic curry.

Doesn’t sound familiar? That’s because this is the Bracknell Forest Hotel resort in southern India in Kerala region near the town of Munnar.

Explaining the interesting name, manager of the resort Mohammed Anees said: “We wanted to give the resort an English name because a lot of English people come here and used to live around here.

“I heard that Bracknell Forest is a nature-protected place in the south of England and we are in a nature-protected place in the south of India.

“The location of the resort is relaxed and calm like Bracknell Forest.”

The area around Bracknell Forest, which costs about £45 a night, is famed for its tea plantations and nearby Munnar is sometimes referred to as “the Switzerland of India” because of its surroundings and architecture.
