School mourns ‘fun’ teacher

12/ 6/2008

Tributes have been paid to a “wonderful” teacher who died unexpectedly from a heart attack aged 60.

Krystyna Wilkie, who taught at Bracknell’s Wildridings Primary School in Netherton for 20 years, died in April after spending a couple of days in hospital because she felt unwell.

Her funeral was held on Monday, May 12, at St Michael’s Church in Easthampstead. The school closed for half a day so staff could attend.

Co-headteacher Dave Donaldson said: “It was such a shocking thing to happen, totally unexpected and obviously a tragic thing to happen for her son Edmund.

“Just before she died she had been on a much-enjoyed trip to China and everything was fine when she came back.

“She started to feel a little unwell and went to hospital just as a precaution and never came back.

“Her funeral was extremely well attended and was a wonderful and moving celebration of her life.”

Mrs Wilkie taught Years Five and Six and was literacy and ICT co-ordinator for the school.

She had a love of books and organised many special events such as a Roald Dahl day and book fairs.

Mr Donaldson added: “Aside from a general love for teaching, she really enjoyed story-time with the children. She was a fun and special member of staff.”

The school is due to undergo some building work with a new garden as part of it.

It will be called the Krystyna Wilkie Garden in fond memory of the teacher and is expected to be open in around six months’ time.
