Spooky similarities of neighbours' deaths

By Mike Pyle
29/ 5/2008

Two women who fell down the stairs to their death in their homes on same street, on the same day were not linked, a coroner has ruled.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths of Susan Croucher, 57, and Janessa Dalton, 51, both of Napier Close in Crowthorne, were described as “remarkably similar” by coroner Peter Bedford duirng an inquest into their deaths in Windsor today - but any links between the two were dismissed.

Both women were found at the bottom of stairs in their homes just hours apart, on October 21 last year. Both had histories of alcoholism and depression.

And Ms Croucher, who lived at number 23, and Ms Dalton, of number 1, were both three times over the drink-drive limit.

Despite living in the same street, the two women were not friends, the court heard.

Bob Croucher, Ms Croucher's partner, told the inquest: “Everybody in Napier Close knows everyone else but there was certainly no close friendship.”

The police launched investigations into the deaths at the time, but in both cases they found no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Bedford recorded verdicts of accidental deaths duirng the two separate inquests.
